Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) participated in Year 2023 International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX’23) at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from 11th to 12th May 2023. The teams received distinguished results with 1 Gold award and 1 Silver award.

Gold Award winner in ITEX’23.

“IoT-Based Energy Management System with Portable Switch,” was presented by Patrick Tan Kuan Hak, Teh Zhong Kiat, and Tung Khai Yen, under the supervision of Dr Vasanthan Maruthapillai, Dr Nur Dalilah Nordin, Mr Chan Bun Seng, and Ms Noor Fatihah Mazlam.

This project exhibits a novel approach to energy management, using Wi-Fi-based technology and a portable switch that can be controlled via smartphone. The system aims to optimize energy consumption, provide real-time monitoring and alerts, and ultimately lead to a more sustainable future. The project’s innovative concept and effective implementation have been highly appreciated by the exhibition visitors.

Silver Award winner in ITEX’23.

“IoT-Based Emergency Notification System (i-ENS),” was presented by Kuaik Hong Wei, Siew Zi Yang, Ng Khai Le, and supervised by Mr Chan Bun Seng, Dr Lim Wei Jer, Mr Leong Kah Meng, Dr Khairul Anuar Mohamad, and Nur Shamilla Selamat.

This project introduces a real-time emergency notification system based on a camera detection system that triggers alerts via email and a mobile application. The system can detect emergencies such as heart attacks, falling down and SOS signals, and subsequently alert the caretaker and relevant emergency response authorities for prompt action. The project’s innovative approach to emergency management and its potential to save lives have been widely appreciated by the exhibition visitors.
